Understanding Directions
Key Concepts
Understanding directions is important for navigating our environment and finding our way. The main directions are North, South, East, and West. These directions help us know where we are and where we are going.
1. North
North is the direction that points towards the top of a map. It is usually marked with an arrow or the letter "N." When you face North, you are facing the direction where the sun rises in the morning.
Example: If you are standing in a park and someone tells you to face North, you should look towards the direction where the sun rises.
2. South
South is the direction that points towards the bottom of a map. It is usually marked with an arrow or the letter "S." When you face South, you are facing the direction where the sun sets in the evening.
Example: If you are lost and need to find your way back home, facing South can help you know which way to go if your home is in the direction of the setting sun.
3. East
East is the direction that points towards the right side of a map. It is usually marked with an arrow or the letter "E." When you face East, you are facing the direction where the sun rises in the morning.
Example: If you are planning to watch the sunrise, you should face East. This is the direction where the sun first appears in the sky.
4. West
West is the direction that points towards the left side of a map. It is usually marked with an arrow or the letter "W." When you face West, you are facing the direction where the sun sets in the evening.
Example: If you are planning to watch the sunset, you should face West. This is the direction where the sun disappears in the sky.
