Physical Health for Grade 10
1. Physical Fitness
Physical fitness refers to the ability of your body systems to work together efficiently to perform everyday activities with ease and without undue fatigue. It encompasses five key components: cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition.
For instance, cardiovascular endurance is like the engine of a car. Just as a powerful engine allows a car to run smoothly for long distances, strong cardiovascular endurance enables your heart and lungs to supply oxygen to your muscles efficiently, allowing you to perform sustained activities like running or cycling without getting tired quickly.
2. Nutrition and Diet
Nutrition and diet are fundamental to physical health as they provide the necessary nutrients to fuel your body and support its functions. A balanced diet includes a variety of foods from all food groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, and dairy. Each food group offers different nutrients that are essential for growth, energy, and overall well-being.
Think of your body as a complex machine that requires specific types of fuel to function optimally. Just as a high-performance car needs premium gasoline, your body needs a balanced diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and macronutrients to maintain its peak performance. For example, proteins are like the building blocks for your muscles, while carbohydrates provide the energy needed for daily activities.
