Locomotor Skills for Grade 2
What are Locomotor Skills?
Locomotor skills are the basic movements that help you move from one place to another. These skills are important because they help you walk, run, jump, and more. Just like how you use your legs to walk to school, these skills help you move in different ways during playtime.
Running
Running is a fast way to move from one place to another. Imagine you are in a race with your friends. To run, you need to lift your knees high and swing your arms back and forth. This helps you move faster. Think of running like a cheetah chasing its prey – quick and powerful!
Jumping
Jumping is when you push off the ground and go up into the air. Imagine you are jumping over a puddle to avoid getting your shoes wet. To jump, bend your knees and then push off with your feet. This helps you go up and then land safely. Think of jumping like a frog hopping from one lily pad to another!
Walking
Walking is a slow and steady way to move. Imagine you are walking to the park with your family. To walk, lift one foot and place it in front of the other, then repeat with the other foot. This helps you move forward without getting tired. Think of walking like a turtle moving slowly but surely!
Skipping
Skipping is a fun way to move that involves jumping with both feet together. Imagine you are skipping rope at recess. To skip, hop on one foot and then the other, alternating quickly. This helps you move in a bouncy, playful way. Think of skipping like a kangaroo hopping around with joy!
