Non-Locomotor Skills for Grade 1

Non-Locomotor Skills for Grade 1

1. Balancing

Balancing is a non-locomotor skill where you maintain your body's position without moving from one place to another. It’s like standing on one leg like a flamingo on a beach, keeping your body steady and still.

To balance, stand on one foot and try to keep your body straight. Lift the other foot off the ground and hold it in the air. Keep your arms out to the sides to help you stay steady. Think of balancing as being as still and graceful as a flamingo, standing tall and proud.

2. Twisting

Twisting is another non-locomotor skill where you rotate your body around its vertical axis without moving from one place to another. It’s like turning around in a circle like a merry-go-round, but staying in one spot.

To twist, stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and turn your upper body to the left or right. Keep your feet firmly on the ground as you twist. Imagine you are a merry-go-round spinning slowly, enjoying the movement without going anywhere. Twisting helps you develop control and coordination.

Balancing and twisting are important skills that help you stay steady and control your body. Keep practicing, and soon you’ll be as graceful as a flamingo and as playful as a merry-go-round!
